Chapter 26: How to get to the Labyrinth (1)

PAO is a game where the player assembles a party of six through a gacha system to clear the Infinite Labyrinth.

The gacha system is so fundamental to the game that it isn’t even entertaining. It’s just like how no one gets excited about breathing.

Even though PVP, raids, clan battles, as well as other events exist within the game, clearing the dungeon is the main goal.

At least, that’s what it's like from the player’s perspective.

Louie’s job can be compared to that of a bureaucrat.

“These bastards. How dare they demand lower entrance fees for the Labyrinth?”

I’m sick and tired of all this paperwork.

Most of these letters essentially say the same thing: ‘This sucks, fix it!’

“All they do is complain. Stop going into the Labyrinth if you can’t afford the entrance fee! They’re nothing more than parasites mooching off the curse on my family.”

“Please calm down, Scion,” Laura said calmly, organising the numerous scrolls by my side.

She was busy helping me with work while wearing a coat over her bunny-girl outfit.

“Would you like me to suck your dick?”

Laura whispered so quietly it was barely audible.

She’s actually asking me to give her an order for a blowjob.

I pulled her close and whispered directly in her ear.

“We have no time. We’d better hurry up.”

She looked disappointed, but I can’t afford to lose my productivity.

“Get me some more tea.”

“Yes, Scion…”

It’s crucial I pay attention to what happens in this city. If not, I risk being taken advantage of little by little, potentially to the point where I’m afflicted by massive losses.

Every little bit adds up.

I don’t mind people complaining about Permarten, but I will not be taken advantage of.

“This is pissing me off…”

I want to spend every minute of my time having sex and have someone else approve the paperwork, but I can’t. I need to run the city.

“Listen, Laura. The enemies of Permarten aren't the Kingdom, nor the Empire.”

They actually are.

I only said that for the eavesdropping maids to hear.

“The real enemies of Permarten are these adventurers who make ridiculous demands without having anything to offer in return.”

I didn’t realise this when I was an adventurer, but I now see how much of an annoying hoard of locusts they are.

“Look at what they want from us… ‘Please lower the magic stone processing fee.’ I don’t even charge them that much but they’re still asking us to make less money!”

On one hand, I get it.

Why are they charging me fees when I’m the one who mined these magic stones?!

Fucking hell, they want three out of the ten stones I found? Are they serious?

I put my neck on the line to get these! I almost got cursed!

While Permarten did create a system for people to profit off of the Labyrinth, it’s the adventurers and miners who actually risk their lives to mine these stones. It’s no wonder they’re complaining.

But here’s the thing.

Whose land does the Infinite Labyrinth exist under?

The entrance to the Labyrinth is under the old castle in which previous Counts used to reside. It has been used as the door to the Labyrinth for the past few centuries.

Because the land belongs to the Count, the Permartens see the adventurers as nothing but peasants working the land.

“If I charged them forty-five per cent of their profits or something, their demands would at least make some sense, but we’re dividing the profits seven to three! They should be grateful for my generosity!”

I get more upset every time I think about it.

“I’m giving them everything they need! We sell their magic stones, clean up the dead monsters, and support them with the necessary personnel. The mines and worksites set up down to the 15th floor were made by Permartens over many generations, yet they have the gall to demand lower fees?!”

When an adventurer brings back a magic stone, the profits are split seven to three.

If a magic stone sells for 100 gold, we take 30.

Sure, it’s a lot of money, but we’re making the mines as safe as possible with that money.

“If it weren’t for the Infinite Labyrinth, they’d probably be cave crawling for tiny magic stones off of goblins.”

“Your job seems tough…”

“It is.”

It’s not easy running one of the economic pillars of this world.

But I can do it.

With Louie’s political power combined with my experience running castles, levelling up cities, and decimating rivals, I can pull it off.

If it weren’t for our combined skills, I would’ve ended up quitting my job as the scion after the first day.

“This is so annoying. I’ll finish it tomorrow. Laura, bring me the white basket.”

“White basket… You mean the one with the yellow horn?”

It used to be a white basket, but I stuck a unicorn’s horn on it.

“Bring it over.”

Laura handed me the basket with a concerned look on her face.

I was overjoyed with anticipation.

“Let’s see…!”

It’s empty.

There’s nothing here.

“Did I mix it up with something else?”

“No, you didn’t.”

“How is this possible? How come no one wants to be a member of the Sex Knights?”

I’m shocked.

Even a shit company gets at least one job application!

“How long has it been since Astarote became our teacher?”

“It’s been about two weeks.”

“How many applications have we gotten in that time?”

I can’t believe this.

“How is this fucking possible?!”

Laura ran off to the corner.

“Please don’t hit me…!”

She’s talking about getting spanked.

Although, I’m sure the maids outside have a different idea of what’s happening.

“Damn it. This is throwing a wrench into my perfect plan…”

In the past two weeks, I’ve done nothing but work, fuck, and learn magic.

“Fuck this. I should leave Jennis with all this work and have sex all day long.”

I’m yet to even set foot inside the Labyrinth.

Of course, I’m supposed to wait until I gain better proficiency in magic, but it’s a big problem having zero applicants.

“If only working was as easy as sex.”

“I’m sorry for not being more helpful.”

“At least you know you’re useless for anything other than sex.”

I grabbed Laura by her face.

“I feel like shit, so suck me off.”

“Yes, Scion!”

She knelt and pulled my pants down on the spot.

She gave me a sly smile as she put my dick in her mouth. Maybe it was because we were at the corner of the room the maids couldn’t see.

“Excuse me, Scion.”

“Mmph?” Laura mumbled something with her mouth full.

“Please pardon my intrusion.”

“What is it?”

Laura’s eyes opened wide in surprise. I turned to look towards the door with my cock still in her mouth.

“Miss Astarote is here. Should I let her in?”

“At this hour? There’s still some time left until the morning lesson.”

She’s too early.

“Why is she here now?”

“I’m not sure, but she wants to report something regarding her studies to you.”

I pulled my—

Laura created a small vacuum in her mouth.

It was impossible to pull my dick out now.

“...Bring her in. I’ll see her after shooting my load.”

Finally, there’s a way to enter the Infinite Labyrinth.
